The fire was reported just after 7:30 p.m. Friday at 25 Deerfield Drive, The Hour said. The temperature at the time was in the single digits, with strong winds on a frigid night.
The homeowner appeared to be suffering from smoke inhalation, Easton Fire Chief Steve Waugh told The Hour. The officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution after searching for additional occupants, The Hour said.
It took about two hours to put out the fire, Waugh told The Hour.
Easton firefighters were joined by crews from Fairfield, Redding, West Redding, Trumbull and Westport to help battle the blaze.
